Chippendale Style Mahogany Longcase Clock

Chippendale Style Mahogany Longcase Clock

Works late 18th C. Case: later

An exceptional mahogany longcase clock in Thos. Chippendale style. The fully pierced fret beneath the swans neck represent the same sort of influence that inspired Chippendale himself. The clock face of 13 inches has an applied silver chapter ring with Roman numerals marking the hours and the five minute increments being marked by Arabic numerals. The center brass is finely engraved and has a second hand as an integrated part of the design. The brass roundel above the face is engraved with the maker's name (Jn. Davidson) and the town of origin (Girvan) located in Ayrshire Scotland. The polished brass spandrels complete the Chippendale style of the clock. The hood has turned pillars with corinthian capitals. The mahogany case, in excellent condition, is of a later date than the clockworks. 69N-95
